Throughout the course of mankind we have established a primitive nature that has allowed us to not only survive but to enable us to transform ourselves into a spiritually enlightened soul. This allowed us to be bound to the universal truth that we belong to something that is so much greater than ourselves. Primitive is defined as ” relating to, denoting, or preserving the character of an early stage in the evolutionary or historical development of something.” After reading and really meditating on what this really means to me and even us as a society I cannot help but be emboldened in the definition. You see by definition alone, the primitive mindset allows you as an individual to always maintain an early stage of development. I am sure you are asking yourself , why exactly is that a good thing? Don’t worry, I asked myself the same question years ago. What this enables you to have is a fresh start. A new constant that allows the key word in the definition and that is development. This is what the primitive mind craves and this is exactly what this first post will cover.
Development has been mans mission since the dawn of time. From primitive man making fire from nothing, to highly educated and fully functioning man working as an engineer in a software company we have been on the fast track of development. This is who we are. This is what we do. we have evolved as humans to create a society of advanced humans that can basically do anything and in many cases do nothing due to advances in technology. This is where the problem lies. We have left behind so much of what we used to be that we are no longer in charge of ourselves. we tend to spend most of day in the workforce or in whatever daily grind that one might be in, not challenging ourselves to be better. We have lost the connection between the early development of ourselves and our new dependent selves. What does this do? Well speaking simply it breaks the human spirit and drive that makes us so remarkable. By losing touch of this we are left with crippling anxiety and depression as well as lack of self confidence and drive to be better. What can you do to battle these negative connotations that have haunted us all? I believe that the connection is within the primitive mind. Going back to the basics and attacking these things one by one using full proof methods that have been discussed and used for centuries. I am talking about training of the mind, body, and spirit and how they develop one another thus strengthening you.
The mind can be your best friend or your worst enemy. It can lead you to great ideas that change the course of your life or it can cripple you with fear leaving you paralyzed. The body can be a great tool or it can be the dissolved instrument never used for its meaningful purpose. The spirit can guide you to unprecedented heights and show you emotions and joy or it can allow you to be crushed under its heavy hand. I am sure all of us has fallen into one if not all of these categories at some moment in our lives. What we are striving to do and what we are called to do is to be the best version of ourselves that we can be not just for ourselves but most importantly others. To make sure that we are in a constant development of ourselves and not wasting away or God given gifts and abilities, we must practice disciplines that keep us in the primitive mindset. This will allow a flow of positive reactions channeling areas of the mind, body, and spirit that may have never been discovered. The first step and the critical portion of this piece is as follows: Every day, engage your mind, body, and spirit in a positive reinforcement that allows a challenge to be met and achieved.
Through this idea this blog was created. I found myself lost in the confusion of life not knowing how to develop any further. I began thinking of ways I could challenge myself but nothing was working. I tending to, like the majority, over stimulate myself and lose interest or just quit and move on to something else. It is through this failure that I quickly realized that maybe doing small less complex missions could benefit me more over time. the process I use now is to do something small for my mind, body, and spirit. This could look something like researching a new hobby for the brain, using 10 minutes of free time to meditate or read scripture for your spirit, and perhaps try a new workout that you have never tried before for your body. I plan on sharing some of these tactics I have used and continue to use as well as my story in future posts.
